As social media company adopts remote leadership, the chief of global affairs will divide time between the UK and California.

An increasing number of key executives from the US social network business have relocated to the UK this year, including Meta’s president of global affairs, Nick Clegg, who is moving to London in part. The Financial Times had just reported that Adam Mosseri, the head of Meta’s Instagram service, was relocating to London when word of Clegg’s decision to divide his time between the UK and California broke. Additionally, chief marketing officer Alex Schultz is moving to the UK this year.

Former Liberal Democrat leader and deputy prime minister of the UK, Clegg was given a promotion by Facebook parent firm Meta (NASDAQ:META) six months ago, and now he is in charge of all of the business’s global interactions with governments, reporting directly to CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

The role has also put him on the front line of resolving the political storms that have occasionally rocked the company, allowing Zuckerberg to avoid the spotlight and instead concentrate on an attempt to revamp to offset the rise of TikTok and seize the lead in developing the metaverse.

A person who knows the matter said that Clegg, a key component in a fundamental change in Meta’s management, will split his time between residences in California and London. Although it has only been this year that several top executives have relocated their primary bases outside of Silicon Valley, Zuckerberg was more forthright than other tech leaders in declaring that remote work would be a permanent part of how the company operates the early days of the coronavirus pandemic.

According to acquaintances, Clegg decided to spend more time in the UK and continental Europe for personal reasons, including the desire to be nearer to his aging parents. He also believed that London was the best city from which to travel to Europe and Asia as well, they claimed.
