Agenus Inc. (NASDAQ:AGEN) reported its financial results for the third quarter of 2026, revealing earnings per share of $0.02, which matched the Zacks Consensus Estimate. However, the company’s revenue for the quarter increased by 4.3% year-over-year to $31.5 million, falling short of the anticipated $35 million according to Zacks.
The shortfall in revenue was primarily due to a decrease in sequential revenues from pre-commercial sales of its botensilimab (BOT) and balstilimab (BAL) products, as well as non-cash royalties. As a result, Agenus’ stock experienced a decline of 7.6% following the announcement, reflecting investor disappointment despite the earnings meeting expectations.
Year-to-date, Agenus shares have seen a significant increase of 105.1%, outpacing the broader industry’s growth of 13.1%1.
Detailed Q3 Financial Performance
Agenus’ leading program involves BOT, a multifunctional, Fc-enhanced anti-CTLA-4 antibody, which is being developed both as a standalone treatment and in combination with BAL, an anti-PD-1 antibody. The pre-commercial revenues from BOT and BAL amounted to $6 million in the third quarter, a 6.3% decrease from the $6.4 million recorded in the second quarter. These revenues were derived from regulatory-approved patient-access programs, such as France’s AAC framework and physician-initiated paid named-patient programs.
Non-cash royalty revenues for the quarter were $25.5 million, down 12.4% from the $29.1 million reported in the same period last year. These royalties are linked to previously monetized interests and do not contribute cash to the company’s finances2.
As of the end of September 2026, Agenus had $86.9 million in cash, cash equivalents, and short-term investments, a substantial increase from $18.7 million at the end of June 2026. This boost was supported by an oversubscribed private placement completed in July, which is expected to fund clinical studies, regulatory activities, and corporate operations through the third quarter of 2027. With full warrant exercise, this financing could support the ROBBIN development program and company operations through the end of 20313.
Regulatory and Clinical Developments
In October 2026, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia granted separate marketing approvals for BOT and BAL, branded as Botvymo and Evamplix, respectively. These approvals are for use in previously treated adults with microsatellite-stable (MSS) metastatic colorectal cancer without active liver metastases. The approvals are conditional and renewable annually, marking the first marketing authorizations for these drugs worldwide. Outside Armenia, the combination remains investigational.
Agenus is also expanding patient access through France’s reimbursed compassionate-access program and physician-initiated named-patient programs in international markets.
The company is preparing for its global phase III ROBBIN study, which will evaluate the BOT+BAL combination in patients with high-risk Stage II and Stage III MSS colon cancer. The first patient is expected to be dosed in the first quarter of 2027, with interim pathologic response data anticipated in the latter half of the year.
During the third quarter, two phase II studies, NEST and UNICORN, demonstrated promising results for the BOT+BAL combination in MSS colon cancer patients prior to surgery. Approximately 30% of patients showed no detectable cancer remaining in the treated tumor tissue, and no recurrences have been reported at the latest update, although follow-up remains limited. These findings could support further evaluation of the combination in the upcoming ROBBIN study4.
