Should You Put Your Money Into Mastercard Stock in 2022?

Asset management firm Mayar Capital has released its investor letter for the second quarter of 2022. The MSCI World Index fell by 5.2% over the three months ended March 31, 2021, whereas the Mayar Fund (Class A) fell by 6.6% after deducting all expenses and fees. Mayar Fund is up 198.7% since its start in May 2011, while the MSCI is up only 180.9% within the same period. Adjusting for inflation results in an annualized rate of return of 10.6% for the Mayar Fund and 10.0% for the MSCI. Mayar Capital acknowledged Mastercard Incorporated (NYSE:MA) and provided its outlook for the firm in its Q2 2022 investor letter. The multinational financial services corporation (NYSE:MA), founded in 1966, is a publicly traded financial services firm headquartered in Harrison, New York and currently valued at $343.3 billion. Since the beginning of the year, the corporation (NYSE:MA) has returned -1.11%, and over the past 12 months, it has returned -1.56%. The price per share for the stock was $355.33 as of the close of trading on August 17, 2022.

Mayar Capital On Mastercard in Q2 2022

In its Q2 2022 investor letter, Mayar Capital had the following to say about Mastercard Incorporated (NYSE:MA):

“While Visa and Mastercard have benefited from the public’s shift away from cash during the pandemic, this shift has reduced prospects for expanding the use of credit and debit cards to make purchases in the future. Although lockdowns significantly impacted international payments in 2020, companies’ remittances and withdrawals are back to pre-COVID levels by 2021.”
