Reportedly, a Warner cable revamp could move HBO repeats to TBS and TNT.

According to Insider, a move to cable programming at Warner Bros. Discovery (NASDAQ:WBD) might result in drama reruns from HBO and HBO Max being broadcast on the company’s cable channels. This would increase the viewership of those channels in the face of rising production expenses.

According to the report, in the midst of ever-increasing costs associated with sports rights and rumors that WBD’s Turner Sports might respond by fully taking over the TBS or TNT channels, the company is considering using its sports viewership to boost interest in second-run programming. This comes amid rumors that WBD’s Turner Sports might respond by fully taking over the TBS or TNT channels.

Shows from the Warner and HBO libraries, such as The Sopranos, Hacks, Succession, and The Flight Attendant, and unscripted work from the Discovery collection, would fall under this category. The corporation admitted that it is working on “refreshing” the roadmap for TBS and TNT.

It would be the most recent of many changes that have piled up since the spring when a new CEO named David Zaslav took control of the WarnerMedia/Discovery combo.

Zaslav set a goal of achieving $3 billion in cost-saving synergy from the merger, which is a goal that has resulted in job and division cuts so far. In particular, the cable channels, the company halted the development of original content for TBS and TNT in April. Zaslav’s goal was to achieve $3 billion in cost-saving synergy from the merger.

WBD is working to maintain the cable bundle while also expanding HBO Max in anticipation of the launch of a new unified streaming app in the summer of 2023. Yet another indication that Zaslav isn’t as fully committed to streaming as its significant media competitors.

On WBD’s earnings call in August, he stated that “our streaming strategy has evolved over the past year” and that this really reflects the importance of – rather than the dependence on – this segment of WBD’s global content monetization plans. “Our streaming strategy has evolved over the past year,”
