Twitch removes partner exclusivity; allows YouTube, Facebook streaming

According to The Verge, the live-streaming platform Twitch (NASDAQ:AMZN) will allow its partners to stream media to platforms like Facebook Live and YouTube (GOOG) (GOOGL).

That marks a relaxation of what had previously been an exclusivity agreement. According to the source, Twitch sent streamers an email saying, “Starting today, you are now authorized to generate live content on other platforms.”

It seems now that partner exclusivity is no longer a thing as of this morning. Twitch informed its affiliate broadcasters via email that the site was ending the long-standing exclusivity agreement that prevented affiliates from streaming on other platforms. Partners can now stream on Facebook Live, YouTube, and other platforms; however, Twitch still has certain restrictions on what they can do in some circumstances.

The following restrictions still apply on “Twitch-like” platforms: Twitch claims, “We believe engaging with two broadcasts at once might lead to a sub-optimal experience for your community,” although simulcasting to mobile platforms like TikTok (BDNCE) and Instagram Live (META) is permitted. Partners cannot stream to YouTube or Facebook for “long periods of time.”

Simulcasting live broadcasts to several “Twitch-like” services is prohibited by Twitch, nevertheless. Streamers are prohibited from “long periods of time” broadcasting their Twitch streams to Facebook or YouTube. However, according to Twitch, simultaneous broadcasting to apps like TikTok and Instagram Live is permitted.

The decision acknowledges the end of relying solely on one platform. This may also be a method to prevent YouTube from luring away the platform’s more well-known content producers, as has happened with streamers like DrLupo and others. On August 25 at 12 pm PT (3 pm ET/8 PM BST), Twitch will host a live stream to discuss the changes in greater detail and answer queries from streamers and users.

Gaming, entertainment, sports, music, and other types of content are all available on Twitch, an interactive live streaming platform.
