Sony Stock Declined, in the Wake of ‘Woman King’ $19M Box Office Success.

Sony stock plummets in the market due to the low performance of Woman King at the box office.

Sony Group Corp (NYSE:SONY) declined as Woman King was victorious at the box office over the weekend with a total that was higher than predicted, paving the way for a successful run against limited competition and assisting the film industry in avoiding the low point of the year.

The historical epic made $19 million at the box office and received positive reviews from critics and audiences alike, which bodes well for the film’s ability to repay its relatively high production cost. As a result, Sony Stock declined in the market.

The picture significantly eclipsed the $6.5 million earned by the second weekend of Airbnb-focused horror entry Barbarian (NYSE:DIS) and fresh horror from A24 in the form of X prequel Pearl ($3.1 million), and it was primarily predicted to lead contenders.

See How They Run (NYSE:DIS), a murder mystery set in the 1950s, brought in $3 million, which was enough to put it in fourth place but ahead of almost all of the films released previously.

Even though Tom Cruise and Top Gun: Maverick (PARA) (PARAA) finally finished outside of the top five again, 2022’s most successful film still pulled in $2.24 million in more than 2,600 theaters, bringing its domestic total to $709.1 million and its international total to $754.2 million (for a total worldwide of $1.46 billion).

Amid a slow release schedule that is expected to continue for several more weeks, ticket sales at the fall box office are approximately 55% lower compared to the pace established by 2019 so far resulting in the Sony Stock decline.

Which exhibitor stocks are once again counting down the days until the October releases of Halloween Ends (CMCSA) and the DC superhero film Black Adam (WBD): AMC Entertainment (AMC); Cineworld; Cinemark (CNK); (IMAX); Marcus (MCS); Reading International (RDI); Cineplex (CGX:CA); National CineMedia; Cinemark (CNK); AMC Entertainment (AMC); Cineworld; Cinemark (CNK); (IMAX); Marcus (MCS); Reading International (RD (NCMI).
