Nielsen and Amazon Sign Agreement for NFL Thursday Night Football National TV Measurement on Prime Video

Nielsen Holdings PLC. NYSE:NLSN

Nielsen Holdings PLC. (NYSE:NLSN) and Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) have signed a three-year deal to measure Prime Video’s exclusive NFL Thursday Night Football (TNF) broadcasts. This is the first time that Nielsen’s National TV measurement service will include a streaming service. Starting with the 2022 NFL season, all of the TNF broadcasts, including pregame, in-game, and postgame programming, will be counted. This includes Prime Video, Twitch, over-the-air stations in each team’s local market each week, and viewing outside of the home.

This is the first time that one of a streaming service’s live shows will be measured as part of Nielsen’s National TV measurement service. This will help Nielsen Holdings PLC. (NYSE:NLSN) keep track of how customers’ viewing habits change and how content owners distribute their shows. Nielsen Holdings PLC. (NYSE:NLSN)‘s panel will be used to measure and process TNF just like all other NFL games. This will allow the same metrics to be reported by all national networks, as well as continued trends and comparisons. Nielsen’s ratings show that in 2021, NFL games and sideshows like pregame and postgame shows made up 47 of the top 50 live telecasts and 27 of the top 50.

Nielsen Holdings PLC. (NYSE:NLSN) has been the long-time leader in measurement, giving the media industry the gold standard, according to Deirdre Thomas, Managing Director, US Audience Measurement Product Sales, Nielsen.

People are getting more and more excited about this new era of Thursday Night Football. Srishti Gupta, Director of Media Measurement at Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) Ads, said. This gives viewers a new way to watch videos and gives brands new ways to connect with fans now and in the future. Because of this collaboration with Nielsen Holdings PLC. (NYSE:NLSN), advertisers would be given campaign measurements they’re already used to, so they can compare their investments in different media channels like for like. Also, Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) will give advertisers access to metrics that will give them useful information about brand awareness, engagement, and sales. Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) is the only company that can offer this powerful mix of first-party and third-party measurements.

Nielsen Holdings PLC. (NYSE:NLSN) will start keeping track of TNF on Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) starting with the preseason game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Houston Texans on August 25. The first of Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN)‘s 15 exclusive TNF regular season games start on September 15 when the Los Angeles Chargers play the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead. This season, TNF will show games from 29 of the NFL’s 32 teams. The season will end on December 29 when the Tennessee Titans host the Dallas Cowboys.
