Shares of Estee Lauder (NYSE:EL) increased on Thursday after the retailer posted positive top and bottom line results for the last quarter of its fiscal year.
The cosmetics manufacturer outperformed analyst expectations on the top and bottom lines despite a 9.6% decrease in revenues from an exceptionally strong 2021. Moreover, adjusted full-year sales for 2022 grew by 9%. According to the corporation, diluted EPS increased by 12% in constant currency.
The company claimed that increasing foot traffic in physical stores in the Americas helped offset the negative effects of rising Covid-19 instances and restrictions in China as well as the suspension of its business operations in Russia and Ukraine.
The New York-based cosmetics business reported that net income decreased from $1 billion, or $2.76 per share, the year before to $50 million, or 14 cents per share.
In fiscal 2022, CEO Fabrizio Freda commented, “We generated great results, exceeding our expectations in the fourth quarter and reaching record sales and profitability on an adjusted basis for the year.” “In the face of pandemic and macro complexity, our numerous engines of growth strategy proved beneficial, giving us the diversification to exploit growth opportunities. Fragrance sales rose, the Americas and EMEA prospered, and makeup fulfilled the promise of its impending resurgence.
Undoubtedly, the firm provided a modest net sales projection, below the consensus estimate of 7.91%, in the range of 3% to 5% compared to the prior-year period. Diluted net earnings per common share are anticipated to be between $7.39 and $7.54, which is also below the $7.95 expectation, after excluding restructuring and other expenses.
On Thursday, shares increased 1.15%.
The Wall Street Journal reported earlier this month that Estée Lauder was in talks to acquire the upscale clothing company, Tom Ford. Although it also sells women’s clothing and accessories, high-end cosmetics, and scents, the company is most recognized for its menswear.
