Apple Suppliers In Vietnam To Manufacture Apple Watch And Macbook – Nikkei

Apple

Nikkei Asia said on Tuesday, citing people familiar with the subject, that Apple Inc’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) suppliers are in talks to make Apple Watch and MacBook in Vietnam for the first time.

According to the source, Apple’s Chinese supplier Luxshare Precision Industry and Taiwan’s Foxconn have begun test production of Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) Watch in northern Vietnam.

Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) has asked suppliers to set up a test production line in Vietnam for the MacBook, according to a report. However, progress in moving mass production to the country has been sluggish, in part due to pandemic-related disruptions and in part because notebook computer production requires a more extensive supply chain.

Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) has shifted some iPhone production from China to other regions, notably India, where it began manufacturing the iPhone 13 earlier this year and where it plans to build iPad tablets.

India, the second-largest smartphone market in the world, along with Mexico and Vietnam, is becoming increasingly significant to contract manufacturers providing American brands as they seek to diversify away from China.

Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL), Foxconn, and Luxshare Precision did not react quickly to a request for comment from Reuters.

Foxconn, a Taiwanese contract maker, issued a pessimistic forecast for the current quarter last week, noting a slowdown in smartphone demand in the wake of a pandemic-fueled surge. read further

As with other worldwide manufacturers, Foxconn – formerly known as Hon Hai Precision Industry Co Ltd – has experienced a serious scarcity of semiconductors that has hampered manufacturing, as pandemic delays persist and the Ukraine conflict further strains logistical lines.
