“Walk in Beauty, Like the Night” (to be released July 21 via MWM/SPOUT distributed by Six Degrees/InGrooves/Universal on all music platforms worldwide) is a new romantic album that realizes the aspirations of Michael Whalen and his countless fans—a fusion of Whalen’s cinematic loveliness and his superlative electronic sound design work which has placed him on the cutting edge of electronic artists worldwide.

DOVER, N. J., July 21, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — “As a composer, I feel the responsibility of creating ‘romantic’ music that empowers and frees those who wish to be free,” admits two-time Emmy® Award Winning Composer and Music Supervisor, Recording Artist and Producer Michael Whalen. “I look to transport people and give them permission to follow their hearts and dreams.”

“Walk in Beauty, Like the Night” (to be released July 21 via MWM/SPOUT distributed by Six Degrees/InGrooves/Universal on all music platforms worldwide) is a new romantic album that realizes the aspirations of Whalen and his countless fans—a fusion of Whalen’s cinematic loveliness and his superlative electronic sound design work which has placed him on the cutting edge of electronic artists worldwide. It is also a sequel to his landmark 2005 piano recording, “My Secret Heart,” one of the most popular and most streamed “New Age” albums ever.

Whalen says that the cinematic nature of poetry has long catalyzed his creativity, and the album’s title, Walk in Beauty, Like the Night, is a respectful nod to a poem of the same name by Lord Byron (George Gordon) on the nature of love and beauty.

“Most of the music on this album was deeply inspired by the woman with whom I fell in love—my wife,” says Whalen, noting that each song was borne of a life lesson that brought them to higher consciousness and awareness.

Whalen maintains that 2005’s “My Secret Heart” has occupied an essential place in his fans’ lives, many of whom have campaigned for years for him to release a sequel to this highly successful album.

“I had thought about returning to the musical ‘universe’ of ‘My Secret Heart’ for quite some time. I played with melodies and then put them away, mindful of my need for new inspiration to not repeat myself artistically and creatively.”

While his previous piano albums have prominently featured some of the finest grand pianos, Whalen ultimately found fresh inspiration for the new album in the Casio PX-S7000 digital piano.

“To me, the Casio PX-S7000 is THE evolution of the piano in the 21st century,” says Whalen. “Its sound, functionality, beautiful design and ability to seamlessly interface via MIDI make it the perfect expression of the classic sound but in a new context. Technology has always opened the door for artists to express themselves anew, and Casio has taken a huge leap with this instrument.”

Whalen also points out that when people come to his house, they ask why his Casio digital piano is the sole instrument located downstairs, away from his upstairs studio, where seventeen keyboards vie for his attention 24/7. This is to say nothing about the computers, mixers, guitars, drums and other gizmos crammed into a spare bedroom, now a recording studio.

“One of the most important things you can do as a creative person is to try to remove as many barriers as possible to have your ideas go from your mind to out in the world,” Whalen says. “The Casio Privia is the centerpiece of my living room—a creative “oasis” for me to work exclusively with musical ideas. Whenever I have an idea, I just sit down and play, and the creativity flows. Using the Casio helped streamline the process of writing and producing this album because the instrument is so intuitive and easy to use. I recorded in the piano on my laptop in my living room. Then, going into the studio with ideas codified and well-drawn makes my time more creative and productive.”

After over 30 years as one of the top television and film composers, an internationally renowned recording artist, a music supervisor, an artist coach/client and a former record label executive, his music has been heard by billions and billions of people. He has accumulated over 850 million streams from all worldwide music platforms since 2015.

Yet Whalen continues to refine and define his purpose in life, homing in on where his passion currently lies to bring an elevated experience to his many fans.
